Bureaucratic Positions

PRESIDENCY

Daniel
Cobos Urquidi

Represents AVEM legally and officially, also convenes and chairs the General Assemblies and meetings of the Board of Directors.

Additionally, is responsible for various bureaucratic tasks required by the association and for adopting any urgent measures that may be necessary. Also supervises the work of the Board of Directors, collaborates with different working groups, and ensures the smooth functioning of AVEM.

VICE PRESIDENCY
OF EXCHANGES

Supports the presidency in its tasks and represents AVEM in the absence of the president. Is responsible for coordinating the work of the different standing comittees and exchanges, as well as for resolving conflicts within the board of directors.

This work is carried out jointly with the president.

INTERNAL AFFAIRS

Supports the presidency in its tasks and represents AVEM in the absence of the president.

Primarily responsible for coordinating the work of the exchange team, as well as for solving any problems that may arise in the management of exchanges.

Organizes, authorizes, and manages the financial transactions of AVEM, together with the Presidency.

Seeks grants, controls, and justifies expenses and income, updates the accounting book, prepares budgets, and economic reports of the association. Additionally, maintains and updates the list of members together with the Secretary.

Carries out the administrative procedures of the association, as well as taking minutes at meetings of the Board of Directors and General Assemblies.

Signs and issues the official certificates of AVEM and is responsible for keeping official documents, collecting physical mail, and updating the contact agenda.

on Public Health

Programs and organizes activities related to Public Health, with the most important and well-known being the World Health Day Fair (Día Mundial de la Salud; DMS).

Additionally, addresses other important topics in society such as mental health, climate change, nutrition, and criticism of the pharmaceutical industries. In relation to Global Health, also organizes activities to raise awareness of prevalent health problems such as stroke, diabetes, depression, etc.

Human Rights and Peace

Programs and organizes activities based on international, intercultural, and interpersonal solidarity.

Additionally, advocates through various activities that all individuals should have full and equal access to human rights from the perspective of equity, prioritizing the most vulnerable people. Through various initiatives and campaigns, aims to unite all of society, including medical students, to support vulnerable groups.

Standing Committee on Sexual and
Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS

Programs and organizes activities to promote conscious sexual and reproductive health habits for all audiences, from the understanding one’s own sexual preferences and characteristics and always promoting respect for all human beings.

Its task is to raise awareness of the importance of sexual health, disseminating information on contraceptive methods, safe sexual practices, and actions for the prevention of STDs/STIs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases/Infections). Additionally, organizes conferences on feminism and respect and inclusion of the LGBT+ community in society.

Medical Education

Programs and organizes activities related to Medical Education, expanding knowledge that is not sufficiently covered in the Medicine degree and is not found in textbooks, such as the doctor-patient relationship and medical examination.

Additionally, conducts practical workshops during the Exploration Week and informs medical students about the MIR system as well as alternatives to it.

Promotes relationships and collaboration among medical students worldwide. At the local level, in AVEM, is responsible for coordinating clinical exchanges, both for incoming and outgoing students:

  • Offers various destinations for professional clinical practices granted to the association each year and taking place in different foreign countries.
  • Manages these exchanges for students from our faculty.
  • Secures placements in Valencian healthcare centers for foreign students, as well as providing support, finding accommodation, and organizing a social plan for their entire stay.

They serve as support and guide for the rest of the Board of Directors. They are especially focused on people knowledgeable about AVEM and with the ability to mediate conflicts, resolve doubts and guide the different positions.

They have a voice but no vote in the meetings and decisions of the Board and are also in charge of drafting reports in the case of applying a sanctioning regime. It is, therefore, a position at the service of others and the needs of the association.
